We round-up the best cars available for the perfect city break

The last thing you want on a city break is a car that's too big and cumbersome for navigating around tight streets. Thankfully there is a wide selection of city cars available, but with so much choice it can be hard to pick the right one. Sacrificing space doesn't mean that you have to sacrifice fun, and the cars listed below are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Volkswagen up!

Small cars like the VW up! are ideal for city breaks, thanks to their nimble handling and easy-to-park size. Those characteristics – plus the refinement and quality usually reserved for larger, more expensive models – helped the up! take the Best City Car crown at our New Car Awards 2017.

The VW excels around town and can dart through city streets thanks to its small stature, but optional cruise control (£365) and heated seats (£235) mean it’s great for longer journeys. The 251-litre boot can cope with luggage for a weekend away as well.

BMW i3

The torque from the electric drivetrain, automated park assist and excellent visibility make BMW’s i3 perfect for the city. Exemption from emissions charges is another plus.

Hyundai i10

Hyundai’s i10 has the benefit of five seats as standard and the option of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both unusual features in the city car class.
