The Countryman is bigger than ever, which means it now has space for a hybrid drivetrain

The Countryman PHEV is one of the newest additions to the PHEV market. The MINI Countryman Mk2 is based on an all-new front-wheel-drive platform, and it has been designed to be fitted with hybrid drive from the outset.

The S E hybrid does sacrifice some boot space and a bit of passenger room to make way for the battery and electric motor, but that's going to happen in a smaller crossover. There's a smaller fuel tank than the standard car, too, but the idea is that the shorter petrol range is made up for by the car's electric range.

Power comes from BMW's 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor that gives the Countryman an all-electric range of up to 26 miles, or you can use a combination of the two to travel up to 310 miles on a full charge and tank.
